Blessed Unrest
A song for these heavy times
I sat down at the back of Sunday service this morning already exhausted and dysregulated. It was only 10:30 AM, but I felt like I could have easily gone back to bed, pulled the covers up, and slept for the rest of the day. Maybe longer. Everything lately has just felt heavy.
Then they played this song.
As it played, I looked around at the congregation (my “village”) and felt my nervous system start to settle.
Every Sunday, I walk into that building with a completely empty cup, and every Sunday, I walk out feeling a bit more regulated, and a bit less alone. This morning, I also walked out with something else that’s been in very short supply lately: hope.
So I wanted to pass the song along in case it offers you some of the same. And I hope you find your way to your village today too.
Fill my days with blessed unrest
And my nights with dreams of justice
Make me a vessel
For the turning of the tide
As always — stay calm, stay connected, and stay regulated.

Thank you. Just when I needed this most. 🥰
A beautiful message in a song. I have moments of hope and so often, thoughts of despair. This nation has shown its citizens and the world who we really are, and although some may say, 'No, this is not who we are,' I do wonder at times.
Only time will tell. The song gives hope, but as they say, hope is not a plan. Knowing what I know about history, I believe the planet and its people are in for a rough time, so the best thing to do is to help those being targeted and persecuted, and use what is left of our democracy to make the changes in government. But like a a virus which has evolved and penetrated our society, we need the equivalence of a vaccine, and that has to be those who believe in a just, empathetic and loving society.
As the song says, 'Fill my days with blessed unrest, And my nights with dreams of justice,
Make me a vessel, For the turning of the tide'.
